Basics
What is Spawn?
A private app builder on your machine. Create a real app, run a localhost preview, change it in Build chat, then Go Live for a public HTTPS URL — with domains, secrets, and plugins in the same place.
How is this different from chat-only builders?
Spawn edits real project files, shows the preview on your machine, and ships a public URL with domains and secrets included. It’s a builder loop — create → run → build → live — not a one-shot chat that dumps disposable code. See Why Spawn.
What do I need to get started?
A machine that can run Spawn, and (when invited) a private beta seat. Describe an app or open existing files, hit Run for a localhost preview, then iterate in chat. No separate deploy dance just to try a change. Walkthrough: How it works.
Privacy & machine
Is Spawn local or cloud?
Building stays local. Project files, preview, and secrets live on your machine until you choose to publish. Go Live puts a public site on the internet; the builder is not a browser-only sandbox that holds your code.
Where do my code and secrets live?
Code stays on your machine until you publish. Secrets (API keys, env vars) live in Spawn’s Secrets and inject at run and deploy — not in your source tree. This site’s waitlist email handling is on Privacy.
Shipping
What happens when I Go Live?
Go Live opens a shareable public HTTPS URL from your machine. Fast path: Ship → Open to the internet, then copy the link or scan the QR. Same project you ran on localhost — keep iterating from Spawn. Tunnel URLs can refresh after reconnect; Reconnect / Auto-start keeps the saved URL current.
Can I use a custom domain?
Yes. Attach your hostname from inside Spawn — no separate hosting console. For lasting traffic, point DNS (A/@) at your public WAN IP and forward the Forge port on your router; Spawn shows the target IP and verify steps. Tunnel links work without port-forward when you just need a shareable HTTPS URL now.
Does my computer need to stay on?
Yes for lasting traffic on this path — Spawn publishes from your machine. Keep the PC awake (Start with Windows helps) and optionally enable Auto-start Public URL so the tunnel comes back after reboot. This is honest private-machine shipping, not a rented always-on host pretending to be local.
Access
How does early access / the waitlist work?
Spawn is in private beta. Join with your email on early access. We invite in waves and email when it’s your turn — no spam, no pitch-deck drip. Honest seat counts; no fake waitlist theater.
Is there pricing yet?
Not publicly. Private beta first. Join early access and we’ll share plans when seats open — building in public on spawnapp.org.
Still deciding?
Join the waitlist, or walk the Create → Run → Live loop.
